International politics and security
Short Description
Doctoral academic studies at the Faculty of International Politics and Security, University "Union - Nikola Tesla" in Belgrade have 180 ESPB points. A person who has completed the basic and master's studies of related and relevant higher education institutions in a four-year duration, having achieved an appropriate average grade (at least 8.00) and a volume of 300 ESPB points, can enroll in the study program of doctoral academic studies. The study program of doctoral studies can provide that a part of master's studies acquired under earlier laws and regulations will be recognized as a corresponding part of the doctoral study program.
Doctoral academic studies take place during six semesters (three years). The entire study program consists of a total of 14 subjects. Of these, 10 subjects are compulsory and the rest are chosen from the list of elective subjects - Elective Subject 1 (Contemporary Democracies and Polemology and Irinology); Elective subject 2 (choose two out of four - Modern history of Europe, Contemporary aspects of international security, Culture of peace and theories of conflict, Political violence in global society); Elective subject 3 (Geopolitics and the Modern State). The study program also includes a study-research paper (SIR), which aims to enable students to prepare the final dissertation, and it carries 10 ESPB points. The final paper, i.e. the dissertation, which includes both the theoretical foundations and the defense, has 20 ECTS. The total number of ESPB that is realized in doctoral studies during three years is 180.
The study program DAS International Politics and Security is defined in accordance with the Law on Higher Education of the Republic of Serbia and the Bologna Declaration and is designed to provide an adequate complement of knowledge and skills for future work in significant public and private sectors. Students expand the subject of complex social and geopolitical processes, security challenges, risks and threats through scientific-professional and professional-applied courses.
The DAS International Politics and Security study program lasts three years (divided into 6 semesters) and is worth 180 ESPB points, has a total of 14 subjects, of which 10 are compulsory subjects and 4 are optional (3 elective blocks).
The purpose of the study program
The study program DAS International Politics and Security is a three-year program of academic studies that aims to educate highly-professional personnel in the field of international politics and security who, with their knowledge, skills and abilities, will be able to get involved in the creation and management of the most complex projects and to assume the most responsible positions. and the highest positions in diplomatic missions, state administration and security and defense structures of the country, in the state, but also in the private sector.
The aim of this study program is to spread the mission and philosophy of international cooperation and integration in the field of politics and security and to train doctoral students, future leaders and professional actors to successfully perform the most complex tasks in international politics and the security sector. By developing specialized knowledge in the field of international politics and security, students have the opportunity to understand all the complexity and difficulty of international politics and the country's security sector, from the definition of a concrete idea to its practical implementation. Doctoral students are encouraged to think creatively and come up with the best solutions that are the basis for making quality leadership decisions.
Through the implementation of the study program conceived in this way, future doctors of science who will possess competence and relevant knowledge recognized in European and world frameworks are educated.
Doctoral academic studies last three years. Upon completion of studies, the candidate acquires 180 ESPB points and the professional title and title of Doctor of Political Sciences, in accordance with the accredited study program. All candidates who have completed basic and master academic studies of related faculties in the social and humanities field in a four-year duration with an appropriate average and earned ESPB points. Enrollment of candidates for studies is carried out on the basis of and in accordance with the competition stipulated by the Law on Higher Education of the Republic of Serbia.
Objectives of the study program
The goals and tasks of the Faculty of International Politics and Security are aligned with the goals of higher education in the Republic of Serbia, the Law on Higher Education and the Statute of the University of Belgrade. The objectives of the master's academic study program at the Faculty of International Politics and Security indicate what is aimed for and what is the desired result and outcome of studying. It is primarily reflected in the intention for graduates to achieve a high level of competence and academic skills, as well as to perfect the methodologies for their acquisition. The general goals of this level of study are to get acquainted with modern knowledge in the field of international politics and security, which will enable doctoral students to objectively and critically perceive numerous complex social phenomena and processes.
The study program of doctoral academic studies has a realistic and clearly defined goal that stems from the vision and mission of the Faculty to provide all students with equal opportunities for quality education and progress in their career or future profession. The goal is for students to occupy the highest and extremely perspective positions in the sector of international politics and security, to work in the state administration, to be engaged in the governmental and non-governmental sector that deals with issues of international politics and security, the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs and Defense, to be organizers and future bearers of research and scientific work for the social-humanistic field.
After completing their studies, they will have the widest range of knowledge to perform the work of a doctor of political science and will be able to perform a wide range of different jobs in the domain of international politics and security in the fields of state administration, to be leaders, to work at diplomatic and consular missions, in the sectors of politics and security and defense, to be analysts in the security system, to participate as experts in international politics and security in state authorities, public administration, in the media and corporations and to be researchers on international and state projects.
In addition to basic educational goals and tasks, the Faculty of International Politics and Security also develops scientific and research activities in the field of political science. As one of its basic tasks, the Faculty determines quality education and training of highly competent political scientists. At the Faculty, they acquire broad interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary knowledge, that is, they acquire and develop complex professional, professional and work skills and abilities, with provided opportunities for permanent specialist training and academic advancement. In order to realize the tasks of its basic teaching and educational activity, the Faculty implements the following levels and types of study programs: study program of basic academic studies - OAS International Politics and Security; and as a one-year program of Master's academic studies, and study program of doctoral academic studies - DAS International Politics and security for three years.
The goal of the study program is to achieve competencies and a combination of academic knowledge and professional skills in the field of social and humanities.
The study program DAS International Politics and Security was established with the following goals:
- familiarization with the research methodology of phenomena and processes of international relations and security,
- practical training for the application of adequate methods and techniques in the study of specific security processes and phenomena,
- achievement of professional competencies of students from various fields through scientific-professional and professional-applied subjects,
- the development of students' creative abilities to consider social problems and their ability to think critically and draw conclusions,
- developing teamwork skills,
- developing professional ethics,
- developing the ability to publicly present work results,
- training in the use of common computer tools for creating documents, presentations, conducting calculations and evaluating safety risks at work
The main goal of the study program
The goal of the study program is to educate experts who possess the highest level of necessary knowledge and can be involved in the creation and management of complex projects by performing the most delicate tasks in the state administration, ministries, diplomatic missions, security and defense structures in both the state and private sectors of the RS or to enable career advancement in existing business positions.
With an innovative and adapted study program enriched with numerous extracurricular activities, professional practices in recognized institutions, the Faculty, i.e. The university adapts to the new times in an effort to respond in the best possible way to the current needs of society and adapt to the galloping changes, while ensuring the highest academic standards.
Outcomes of the study program
Students who have completed doctoral studies in DAS International Politics and Security are competent to solve and analyze real problems from practice, as well as to continue their education if they decide to do so. Competencies include, first of all, the development of critical thinking skills, the ability to analyze and understand problems with synthesis and application of solutions, predicting the behavior of the chosen solution with a clear idea of the good and bad sides of a certain decision.
Students of this level of study possess high competencies for applying knowledge in practice and monitoring and applying novelties in the profession, they are able to adapt to all the challenges that the modern world and the accelerated, complex dynamics of business bring with them.
Upon completion of the doctoral academic studies program DAS International Politics and Security, the student acquires general and professional competencies:
- mastering the methods, procedures and processes of scientific research;
- analysis, synthesis and application of fundamental knowledge (sociology, philosophy, political science) to recognize, describe and solve practical problems;
- solving problems and tasks using interactive, interdisciplinary methods;
- understanding of complex geopolitical turmoil, future challenges and threats to the stability of the state;
- risk assessment, occupational safety in corporate companies
- knowledge of basic legal and economic concepts, market laws and mechanisms;
- exchange of information, ideas, problems and solutions with people in the profession and outside the profession;
- development of critical and self-critical thinking and approach, as well as a positive attitude towards the importance of lifelong learning in personal and professional development;
- cooperation in professional team work and taking an ethical position in solving problems;
Upon completion of studies, the student acquires subject-specific competencies for the field of international politics and security, such as - methodology and independent writing of scientific research work, international organizations, modern aspects of international security, modern international relations, culture of peace, political violence in global society, globalization and challenges which it carries in modern society, polemology and irinology, etc.
By studying numerous complex phenomena, future doctors of science acquire exceptional competences so that they can perform the most delicate, complex tasks in the national security system and thus contribute to the peace and stability of the country, but also to the development of the academic community, if they decide to carry out pedagogical and educational activities and commitment.
