Master Environmental Protection Analyst

12 subjects are planned for the one-year Master's academic studies - MAS Environmental Protection study program. Out of a total of 12 subjects, the student must pass 9 subjects. Out of that number, 6 courses are compulsory, and 3 courses are optional out of a total of 6 elective courses offered. The outline content of the Master's academic studies of the MAS Environmental Protection study program (which refers to both compulsory and elective subjects) includes: 1 subject belongs to the group of academic-general education subjects (OA), 3 subjects belong to the group of theoretical-methodological (TM) subjects, 3 of subjects belong to the group of scientific-professional (NS) subjects and 5 subjects belong to the group of professional-applied (SA) subjects. All courses are one-semester and carry the appropriate number of ECTS points. Out of a total of 60 ESPB electives, at least 20 % are represented in relation to the total number of ESPB points. Studies are considered completed when the student fulfills all obligations prescribed by the study program, defends the final - master's thesis and collects a total of 60 ESPB points.

The purpose of the Environmental Protection study program of the Master's academic studies of the University "Union - Nikola Tesla" at the Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Protection is the acquisition of education and the achievement of appropriate competencies and in-depth academic knowledge necessary for competent work in the field of environmental protection, based on on the principles of sustainable development, as a prerequisite for the survival and progress of humanity.

The study program provides the completed Master's environmental protection analyst with competencies that are socially justified and useful in accordance with the needs of society, such as the analysis and control of water, air and soil quality and the assessment and analysis of anthropogenic impact on the environment. A student who completes a master's academic study - Environmental Protection study program acquires competences for independent or team research work, both in all economic fields (exploitation of mineral raw materials, hydrotechnical facilities, electro-mechanical industry, transport industry, chemical and wood industry, agriculture, oil industry, waste treatment plants, etc.) on the establishment of environmental protection systems, as well as in public services, state bodies, state institutions and non-governmental organizations - on tasks in the field of environmental protection analysis.

The Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Protection has established basic tasks and goals that are in line with the goals of the "Union - Nikola Tesla" University, which educates experts in the field of environmental protection and thus achieves priority tasks towards fulfilling the conditions for joining European integration. as well as the conditions for higher education in the Republic of Serbia, which are established by the Law on Higher Education of the Republic of Serbia. The goals and objectives of "Union - Nikola Tesla" University are:

  • consistent application of European and world standards for studies in the multidisciplinary field of environmental science;
  • to provide students with knowledge, abilities and skills at a modern educational level for the purpose of creative work;
  • to train students in the basic rules of business in the field of environmental protection;
  • to implement the educational process according to innovative study programs using modern teaching methods and technologies.

 

The Master's academic studies of the Environmental Protection study program are designed and based on fundamental scientific principles that equip students, that through the understanding of new achievements in the field of environmental protection sciences and modern technologies, quality analysis of environmental factors, environmental impact assessments, protection and improvement of natural resources and resource management based on the principles of sustainable development, in practice provide adequate answers to modern pollution problems environmental protection. The Master's academic studies of the Environmental Protection study program were conceived on the basis of insight and analysis of curricula and programs of various faculties in European countries and the USA, as well as our specific conditions and needs. Through the implementation of the Environmental Protection study program conceived in this way, a Master's environmental protection analyst is educated, competent in domestic, European and international frameworks.

The main goal of the study program Environmental protection of the master's academic studies at the University "Union - Nikola Tesla", Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Protection, is the education of personnel with a high degree of expertise to perform complex, creative and research work in the field of environmental protection from the natural-mathematical fields and scientific areas - environmental protection sciences. To this end, students on this study program expand their understanding of key concepts of environmental protection and prolong their understanding of new scientific achievements and modern technologies in this area, which will improve the skills they have already acquired. In this way, students will be able to independently plan, critically assess, adapt and apply methodologies to solve numerous specific problems that they may encounter in practice, which enables a deeper understanding of certain, specialized branches of environmental protection.

In the current process of restructuring the Serbian economy, professionally oriented personnel, qualified, trained and aware of the need for development and improvement of environmental protection, as well as the introduction and application of world and European standards of environmental protection in all domains of business, are especially sought after.

The inclusion of the Republic of Serbia in the global trends of environmental protection and sustainable development requires the education of a large number of experts at all educational levels and fields in order to protect the environment and organize the country, based on the standards achieved in developed countries, and in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.

In addition to the above, the important goals of the Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Protection include the implementation of new educational standards and technologies in the teaching process in accordance with the Bologna Declaration.

In order to effectively achieve the stated goals, within the study program of master's academic studies, the following is implemented:

  1. improving the quality and educational level of the teaching staff through the organization and constant presence at scientific and professional gatherings in the field of environmental protection;
  2. harmonization of master's study curricula with the essence of the curricula of the world's leading educational institutions in the field of environmental protection;
  3. permanent innovation of curricula and environmental protection programs;
  4. organization of cooperation with appropriate scientific and professional organizations and educational institutions in the country and abroad, in accordance with the Bologna process;
  5. establishment of international cooperation in the form of professional and scientific contacts between professors and students;
  6. education of high-quality professional-scientific personnel necessary for the realization of the strategy of environmental protection and sustainable development.

The main goal of the study program MAS Environmental Protection of the master's academic studies at the University "Union - Nikola Tesla", Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Protection, is the education of personnel with a high degree of expertise to perform complex and creative work in the field of environmental protection. The profile of personnel with the title Master analyst of environmental protection is necessary in all sectors of the economy and administration, as well as the global reorientation of the economy, in the private sector, consulting companies and the civil sector in the field of the environment, in educational activities, but also in international organizations aimed at development environmental protection, social and economic progress, in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, with the aim of successful implementation of European integration.

 

One of the specific goals of this study program is to introduce students to research work, as preparation for doctoral studies at this faculty and the University "Union - Nikola Tesla" or at other faculties and universities.

By mastering the Master's academic studies of the Environmental Protection study program, the graduated students are competent to analyze and solve real and complex problems of environmental protection and are able to continue their education at doctoral studies according to their choice. General competence implies the development of the ability to think critically, the ability to analyze problems, synthesize solutions, predict the outcome of the chosen solution with an assessment of its positive and potentially negative effects, a high level of communication skills and cooperation with the wider and wider environment, and professional ethics that strengthen public awareness for environmental protection . Students are trained for independent scientific and research work.

 

By acquiring the title of Master of Environmental Protection Analyst, one acquires subject-specific competencies that are manifested in the field of environmental protection, such as:

  • consistent implementation of the principles of sustainable development, rational use and management of resources and mastering the basics of protection and improvement of natural assets;
  • mastering the basics of instrumental methods of analysis and environmental protection management systems, as a basis for the approach to situation analysis and planning and programming of environmental protection measures,
  • solving specific problems in the field of drinking and wastewater treatment technologies and solid waste (biological, mechanical-biological, thermal), as well as waste management (treatment, recycling, obtaining energy from waste and waste disposal) and hazardous waste;
  • knowledge of the theoretical foundations of scientific and research work;
  • the ability to assess the impact on the environment of new development projects, manage risks in technical-technological systems in normal and extraordinary circumstances, develop planning, programming and create proposals for environmental protection projects, as well as modeling and developing environmental protection systems, based on the connection of basic knowledge and ability to assess, acquired in the Master's study program Environmental Protection;
  • continuous monitoring of the rational use and management of resources and the improvement of natural assets and the application of novelties in the profession, as well as the synthesis of knowledge in Environmental Information Systems - EIS, Environmental Protection Management Information Systems - EMIS and Environmental Decision Support Systems - EDSS.
