COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS – Between Visual Symbol and Symbol of Power, presented as a theoretical assumption (construct) and an architectural idea, rather than merely a semester student project, University “Union – Nikola Tesla,” Faculty of Construction Management, Department of Architecture and Urbanism.

The experimental nature of the project is based on understanding boundaries as membranes between the external and internal, public and private, social and intimate, permitted and forbidden. The focus is on the space that exists “between” things — a space that, by uniting, separates and, by separating, unites; on people, objects, cultures, identities, and spaces that differ from one another.

The zoning of land for the development of central urban business districts is not only a limiting factor in the strategic planning and expansion of the city but also creates an economic problem that contradicts the very concept of prosperity. Additionally, in terms of cultural context, it restricts the possibilities for meeting the contemporary needs of Belgrade and its iconic future. The city becomes a metaphor for economic and cultural status — between visual symbol and symbol of power.
