International politics and security

Bachelor academic studies (1st degree) at the Faculty of International Politics and Security, University "Union - Nikola Tesla" in Belgrade have 240 ESPB points. A person who has completed a four-year secondary education and passed the entrance exam in general culture and information can be enrolled in the study program of bachelor academic studies.

Bachelor academic studies take place over eight semesters (four years). The study program of bachelor academic studies is a set of compulsory and optional subjects with a framework content: academic-general education subjects (10 in total), theoretical-methodological subjects (7), scientific-professional subjects (13) and professional-applied subjects (14), mastering which provide the necessary knowledge and skills in two complementary areas - international politics and security.

The OAS International Politics and Security study program is defined in accordance with the Law on Higher Education of the Republic of Serbia and the Bologna Declaration and is designed to provide an adequate basis for future work in significant public and private sectors. In the first phase, which represents the basis for understanding social sciences, the study program includes fundamental theoretical subjects such as philosophy, sociology, introduction to political sciences, etc. In addition, students acquire basic practical knowledge and skills through numerous extracurricular activities and practice. After that, the student becomes familiar with the basics of complex social and geopolitical processes, security challenges, risks and threats through scientific and professional subjects.

The OAS International Politics and Security study program lasts four years (divided into 8 semesters) and is worth 240 ESPB points (4x60 ESPB), has a total of 44 subjects, of which 28 are compulsory subjects and 16 are optional (8 elective blocks). Each elective block contains two subjects. According to the schedule, there are 8 subjects in the first year (of which Elective subject 1: English language 1 and Russian language 1), in the second year 8 subjects, in the third year 8 and in the fourth year 11 (Elective block 5: Geopolitics and Balkan relations; Elective block 6: Security System of the Republic of Serbia and Corporate Security); Elective block 7 (EU-Policy and Security and Contemporary Security Challenges and Threats) including professional practice, research paper and final paper.

The goals of the study program are achieved by introducing students to the subject, methods and practices in international politics and security, as well as by mastering the most important concepts, scientific categorical apparatus, theoretical directions and systems in international politics and security.
Training students for independent work in the field of international politics and security, state institutions, corporations, governmental and non-governmental sectors, research and professional practice is one of the priorities of this study program. In addition, introducing students to the most important theories and practices of international politics and security; introducing students to various fields of application of international politics and security in order to choose a specific professional profile.
Students who decide to continue their academic studies at higher levels receive with this program a solid enough foundation for successfully following more complex disciplines in advanced study programs.
Through the realization of the study program conceived in this way, graduates of political science who possess competence in European and world frameworks are trained.
Bachelor academic studies last four years. Upon completion of studies, the candidate acquires 240 ESPB points and the professional title of graduate political scientist for international politics and security, in line with the accredited study program of the first degree. All candidates who have completed a four-year secondary education and passed the entrance test in general culture can enroll in the offered study program of bachelor academic studies of the Faculty of International Politics and Security, University "UNION - NIKOLA TESLA" in Belgrade. Students of related faculties can enroll in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year on the basis of a certificate of passed exams, and on the 4th year on the basis of the obtained diploma of a three-year academic education (180 ESPB). Enrollment of candidates for studies is carried out on the basis of a competition.

The goals and tasks of the Faculty of International Politics and Security are aligned with the goals of higher education in the Republic of Serbia, the Law on Higher Education and the Statute of the University of Belgrade. The goals of the bachelor academic study program at the Faculty of International Politics and Security indicate what to strive for and what is the desired result and outcome of studying. It is primarily reflected in the intention for graduates to achieve a high level of competence and academic skills, as well as to perfect the methodologies for their acquisition. Concrete results in the field of higher education in diplomacy, international politics and security are especially emphasized as basic goals. One of the more priority goals is the high-quality transfer of significant scientific and professional knowledge and skills from the aforementioned, as well as the development and improvement of scientific and research activities and concrete skills of public speaking, lobbying, diplomatic protocol, etc.

The study program of bachelor academic studies has a realistic and clearly defined goal that stems from the vision and mission of the Faculty to provide all students with equal opportunities for quality further education and progress in their future work. The goal is for students to take initial, but promising positions in the sector of international politics and security, to work in the state administration, to be engaged in the governmental and non-governmental sector that deals with issues of international politics and security, the ministries of the interior and defense, as well as the foreign politics, to be organizers and future bearers of research and scientific work in this sector of society.

After completing their studies, they will have a wide range of knowledge for the jobs of a qualified political scientist for international politics and security and will be able to perform a wide variety of jobs in the domain of international politics and security in the areas of state administration, to work at diplomatic and consular missions, in the sectors of politics, security and defense , to be analysts in the security system, to participate as experts for international politics and security in state authorities, public administration, political parties, in the media and corporations and to be researchers on international and state projects.

In addition to basic educational goals and tasks, the Faculty of International Politics and Security also develops scientific and research activities in the field of political science. As one of its basic tasks, the Faculty determines quality education and training of highly competent political scientists. At the Faculty, they acquire broad interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary knowledge, that is, they acquire and develop complex professional, professional and work skills and abilities, with provided opportunities for permanent specialist training and academic advancement. In order to realize the tasks of its basic teaching and educational activities, the Faculty implements the following levels and types of study programs: study program of bachelor academic studies - International Politics and Security; Master's academic studies MAS as a one-year program, and study program of doctoral academic studies - DAS International Politics and Security lasting three years.

The aim of the study program is to achieve the competence of academic knowledge and professional skills in the field of social sciences and humanities.

The OAS International Politics and Security study program was established with the following goals:

• training students to apply the necessary knowledge from fundamental scientific disciplines (philosophy, sociology, political science, etc.).
• achievement of professional competencies of students from various fields through scientific-professional and professional-applied subjects,
• the development of students' creative abilities to consider social problems and their ability to think critically and draw conclusions,
• developing teamwork skills,
• developing professional ethics,
• developing the ability to publicly present work results,
• training in the use of common computer tools for creating documents, presentations, performing calculations and evaluating safety risks at work,
• training for continuing education at higher levels.

The goal of the study program is to educate experts who possess sufficient necessary knowledge and can be involved in the creation and management of complex projects, performing the most delicate tasks in the state administration, diplomatic missions, security and defense structures in both the state and private sectors of the RS.
With an innovative study program enriched with numerous extracurricular activities, professional practices in recognized institutions, the Faculty, i.e. The university adapts to the new times in an effort to respond in the best possible way to the current needs of society and adapt to the galloping changes, while ensuring the highest academic standards.

Students who have completed the bachelor studies of OAS International Politics and Security are competent to solve real problems from practice as well as to continue their education if they decide to do so. Competencies include, first of all, the development of critical thinking skills, the ability to analyze problems, synthesize solutions, predict the behavior of the chosen solution with a clear idea of the good and bad sides of the chosen solution.

Students of this level of study have the competence to apply knowledge in practice and follow and apply novelties in the profession, they are able to adapt to all the challenges that the modern world and the accelerated dynamics of business bring with them.

After completing the program of bachelor academic studies in International Politics and Security, the student acquires general competencies:

• mastering the methods, procedures and processes of scientific research;
• analysis, synthesis and application of fundamental knowledge (sociology, philosophy, political science) to recognize, describe and solve practical problems;
• solving problems and tasks using interactive, interdisciplinary methods;
• understanding of complex geopolitical turmoil, future challenges and threats to the stability of the state;
• risk assessment, occupational safety in corporate companies
• knowledge of basic legal and economic concepts, market laws and mechanisms;
• exchange of information, ideas, problems and solutions with people in the profession and outside the profession;
• development of critical and self-critical thinking and approach, as well as a positive attitude towards the importance of lifelong learning in personal and professional development;
• cooperation in professional team work and taking an ethical position in solving problems;

Upon completion of studies, the student acquires subject-specific competencies for the field of international politics and security, such as - scientific research methodology, contemporary theories of international relations, international organizations, doctrines of non-violence, contemporary security systems, analysis of contemporary political and security phenomena, theories and models of democracy, religious fundamentalism and extremism, globalization and security and strategic management in political and security processes.
