Master of Informatics (mast.inform.)

The MAS Informatics study program complies with the standards for master's academic studies, the Law on Higher Education of the Republic of Serbia and the corresponding accredited European programs. Master's academic studies in Informatics last 1 year (2 semesters), are evaluated with 60 ESPB. The study program of Master's academic studies in Informatics is a set of compulsory and elective courses with a framework content: academic-general education courses (15,38%), theoretical-methodological courses (15,38% ) scientific-professional courses (30,77%) and professional-applied courses (38,46%), mastering which provides the necessary knowledge and skills of a Master of Information Technology.

The curriculum of the Informatics study program, master of academic studies, stipulates that during the first semester students attend and pass a total of five subjects, two of which are compulsory and three elective (each elective block consists of two subjects). In this semester, the student receives a total of 30 ESPB points for all passed exams.

In the second semester, students take another compulsory subject, research and write a master's thesis in which they are guided by a selected teacher, so in this semester, consultations with a mentor for writing the thesis are scheduled. In this semester, professional practice is carried out for the duration of 90 hours. In the second semester, for passing the mandatory exam, for completed professional practice, for independent research and preparation of the master's thesis, as well as for the defense of the master's thesis, the student earns a total of 30 ESPB points.

The structure of the subject is aligned with the needs of the formation of highly skilled personnel from the point of view of their future competence. First of all, students are trained in the application of adequate methodologies for research, and then they are introduced to the complex issues of software engineering and information technologies.

The student completes his studies by writing a master's thesis, which consists of a study research paper, theoretical and methodological preparation necessary for a deeper understanding of the field from which the final master's thesis is written, and the creation of the thesis itself.

The study program consists of compulsory and optional subjects. A student can influence the structure of the study program with optional subjects (which he chooses himself), and thus shape his academic profile. Through compulsory subjects (Theory of algorithms, Tools and methods of software engineering, Intelligent systems) and SIR, the acquisition of the necessary knowledge and skills in this area is ensured, and through optional subjects (Modeling and optimization of business processes, Programming of mobile applications, Fundamentals of semantic technologies , Algorithms and techniques of bioinformatics, Applied informatics and Applied statistics) those contents that more closely correspond to the interests and abilities of individual students are covered. Professional practice is mandatory and takes place in the second semester for 90 hours.

During the lecture, the candidate can define the topic for the master's thesis. Project assignments from the first and second semester can be integrated into the master's thesis. Project tasks give master's students the opportunity to solve specific practical problems through practical work and research, using scientific methods and procedures, as well as to connect basic knowledge from different fields and apply them in their work, which they finally process in the master's thesis. After completing the Master's academic studies of the Informatics study program, the academic title of Master of Informatics is acquired.

By mastering the study program of the master's academic studies, the student acquires competencies that are a function of the quality performance of professional and scientific activities in the field of computer science.

Teaching in this study program is interactive in nature, necessarily includes examples from practice, encourages students to think and be creative, work independently and apply acquired knowledge. Students will collaborate directly with subject teachers, practically check acquired knowledge in specialized computer classrooms, have the opportunity to express individual and team creativity and develop critical thinking and expression. The quality of the teaching process is ensured through the application of the following teaching methodical forms:

  • lectures,
  • performing practical exercises,
  • preparation of project tasks and other professional works and their presentation,
  • discussion through emphasis on expression and critical thinking
  • application of modern "case study" methods,
  • training students to work according to the project principle, as well as for teamwork,
  • performing professional practice.

The conditions for enrollment in the study program are given in the University Statute. In the first year of master's academic studies in this study program, a person who has completed appropriate basic academic studies in the natural and mathematical field, having achieved at least 240 ESPB points, can enroll. The Statute of the University defines the criteria for determining the order of candidates and the procedure for conducting the competition.

The final master's thesis is presented with 15 ESPB points and, as part of the program structure, aims to connect acquired knowledge in the field of computer science. It is structured according to phases that reflect the realization of research within a certain area of computer science.

Successful completion of this master's study program enables students to continue their studies at doctoral studies.

The purpose of the MAS Informatics study program is to educate personnel for the profession of Master of Computer Science and train them for the application of modern program models in the field of computer science. This study program is based on the practice and experiences of well-known higher education institutions from EU countries and the world. The study program is aligned with the needs of personnel of this profile in our country.

The purpose of the study program is to provide students through education with the opportunity to choose a profession and employment in companies, municipalities, banks, public institutions and organizations and various types of institutions; to enable students to independently monitor, acquire, develop and apply modern scientific and professional achievements, to provide the opportunity to graduate students to enroll in specialist academic studies or doctoral studies after completing their master's academic studies.

The study outcomes of the proposed program should ensure:

  • acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge needed on the labor market in informatics;
    • meeting the needs of the economy, public companies, municipalities, healthcare and education, for experts in the field of computer science;
    • improving the level and diversity of the offer of higher education in the Republic of Serbia,
  • Providing such an education that enables the student to be mobile in the educational space during his studies and in the world market after that.

In the modern trends of the development of society, the need for young and competent personnel in the field of computer science appears as a necessity. This study program also works on developing the personality of students, who will not only be experts in the field of computer science, but also modern intellectuals who will constantly contribute to the inclusion of our country in international integration.

The MAS Informatics study program has clearly defined goals that are formulated on the basis of experiences and the most modern innovations in this field that are studied at similar higher education institutions.

of the MAS Informatics study program is the acquisition of research and professional competencies in the field of information sciences:

- methodological education enables students to independently conceive and conduct research in the field of information science, planning, implementation and evaluation of projects and programs;

- acquiring knowledge in a certain field of application of informatics, as well as professional knowledge and skills required for work in practice;

- effective solving of professional problems based on professional knowledge and skills, as well as critical and creative thinking;

- acquiring knowledge, especially those segments related to research methods, managing the development of information systems and technologies, tools and methods of software engineering, modeling and optimization of business processes, knowledge management, technological information systems and logical programming.

- the ability to communicate professionally with clients as well as with members of interdisciplinary teams;

- preparedness for continuing scientific and professional training;

- ability to perform professional tasks and solve professional problems at the necessary ethical level.

The MAS Informatics study program provides quality study and education of personnel who will be able to respond to the challenges of modern science through:

  • permanent monitoring of modern scientific trends and achievements and transfer of knowledge to students through modern curricula and programs in the field of computer science;
  • facilitating the transmission of modern knowledge, methods and scientific techniques that are applied in developed European university centers, but also taking advantage of the good achievements of the higher education system in the country.

Through theoretical and practical teaching, students should be able to successfully implement their knowledge in the field of computer science and to independently perform scientific research in this field and related disciplines. In the course of daily work, after completing the study program, students will be able to model new programs, to check them and to valorize the effects of their application in working with different categories of users.

By mastering the MAS Informatics study program at the master's academic studies, students acquire general and subject-specific competencies, which are in the function of quality performance of professional activities in the field of computer science.
